On Thursday 12th of August 2021, we made official presentation of “Cooperative Teaching Manual” developed by Festus Fajemilo Foundation, Lagos state chapter of JONAPWD & Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul Province of Nigeria to the Hon. Comm. of Education Mrs Folasade Adefisayo inside the conference room of ministry of education, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos.
The manual consists of two parts. Part 1 focuses on inclusive school practices while part 2 deals with inclusive classroom practices. Objectives of the manual among others is to profile children with disabilities for education, enhance teacher’s skills to effectively meet educational needs of all categories of learners in public inclusive schools in Lagos state, and increase teacher’s knowledge of the fundamental rights of every child to quality education.
Responding, Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, commended FFF and partners for efforts that have been improving the status of education in the state.
Mrs Adefisayo affirmed that the government is working towards improving the status of inclusive education in the state.
She revealed that, “over the next one year, we really need to work on a proper framework and fund a programme to improve Inclusive Education in Lagos State.”
The Education commissioner also noted that, “teachers need to be engaged on how to treat children with disabilities in schools, they should avoid discrimination and know that children with disabilities should be encouraged to be the best they can.”
